Before most of us knew there was a place known as Alice Springs, in the days of camel teams and pack horses, there were two stores in Alice Springs - F.B. Wallis & Co. and J. Fogarty & Co. - both serving a handful of pioneers making their home in a tough new country. In 1924 these two companies merged into a limited company known as Wallis Fogarty Limited, with more capital to better aid thepeople of Central Australia ; seeing good years and bad , but all the time playing its part in the opening up of the country, as old timers will tell you.
